Butterfly Memory Release

We understand that the memory of your loved one is precious, and you want to honour them in a special way.

The Willow Wood Hospice Butterfly Memory Release is the perfect way for you to celebrate and remember those you love.

Here are three simple ways you can be part of this wonderful event:

Attend the Butterfly Release

On Saturday 13th July 2024, our tranquil gardens at the Hospice will be open for you to join us as hundreds of beautiful butterflies emerge into the summer sunshine – a symbol of those you love and a dedication to your love for them.

This poignant occasion is open to everyone in our community, and we know that you will enjoy the wonderful surroundings, and this special opportunity to celebrate the ones we love.

Throughout the event, everyone can enjoy our gardens with refreshments, stalls and children’s activities – there will be something for everyone.

If you would like to join us at the Butterfly Release, please indicate on the form below which of our three time slots would suit you best.

We recommend you arrive 30 minutes before your chosen release time. Doors will open at 11am on the day.

Limited Blue Badge parking is available at the Hospice. Darnton Road has a public pay and display car park if you are not coming on foot or public transport.

The butterflies can only be released in dry weather so event timings may be subject to change. Updated information will be communicated on our social media channels.

This event has been kindly supported by Anthony Barton Independent Family Funeral Services in Mossley.

Dedicate a butterfly

You can dedicate butterflies to up to five loved ones via the form below. Their name(s) will go in the Butterfly Memory Book, you will receive a beautiful keepsake and a live butterfly will be released on 13th July 2024.

If you dedicate a butterfly, you don’t necessarily have to attend the release as we will do it for you if you wish.

Purchase your own dragonfly

Crafted with care by artist Ed Alvis of Metal Art UK, this magnificent work of art – which measures approximately 15cm wide and 12cm long – is designed to enhance the beauty of your garden or home.

The dragonfly serves not only as a timeless tribute and celebration of your loved one’s life but also supports families when they need us the most.

They cost £30 each and can be ordered via the form below.

You can pick it up from the Hospice (on Willow Wood Close, off Mellor Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, postcode OL6 6SL) or, if you are unable to do so, you can get it delivered to you (within mainland Britain) for an extra cost of £5 per dragonfly.
