Dying Matters 2024

Understandably, many people still find talking about death and dying difficult, people can be worried about “saying the wrong thing” or individuals feel uncomfortable sharing their wishes about their own end of life or death. These essential conversations, however scary, are often helpful.

As a hospice, we are well placed within our community to encourage open conversations about death, dying and grief in a supportive manner. This year, the Dying Matters theme is around the language we use in relation to death and dying, and finding a comfortable way to talk about these topics is the first step to ensuring communities can support each other.

Willow Wood Hospice will be supporting Hospice UK’s “Dying Matters” campaign. A national awareness week held from 6th to 12th May, it encourages communities to come together to create an open culture when talking about death, dying and grief.

During Dying Matters Week, we are inviting colleagues from health and social care across both acute and community teams, faith leaders, funeral directors, and other charities to learn about the language of death and dying.

Join us at our Professionals Open Day on Thursday 9th May to understand the importance of saying the right thing and find out more about what happens at Willow Wood Hospice.

Hosted by our Hospice teams, join us at this interactive market place event, aimed at opening up the vital conversation about dying.
