Inpatient Care

Our specialist team provide the highest quality care and support for local people with cancer, or any life-limiting illness. It is our aim to help people live as well as possible, for as long as possible.

A friendly, warm and safe place, the Inpatient Unit has 10 purpose-built private, en-suite bedrooms, all with garden views, specially equipped to support people receiving help with complex symptom control, or end-of-life care.

Our IPU team care for adults aged 18 years and over who live in Tameside and Glossop or who are registered with a GP in those boroughs.

INPATIENT UNIT CARE

Our team provides short-term care and support. We provide complex symptom control and assessment, and periods of palliative rehabilitation to patients for them to manage their illness and be discharged home.

We also offer specialist care for patients who are in the final days and hours of their lives. Experienced staff provide round-the-clock care, regularly assessing each patient to ensure that their individualised care plan meets any changes to their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs.

Our holistic approach to care means that every patient can be supported by hospice-wide multi-disciplinary teams who can provide:

  • Individual counselling sessions
  • Chaplaincy spiritual support
  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Complementary therapy – Reiki, reflexology, massage and aromatherapy

As part of our commitment to continuous education and learning within palliative care, doctors and nurses in training are an integral part of our Inpatient Unit team.

Our Family Support team is on hand to offer counselling and bereavement services to patients and those closest to them, both adults and children.

Visitors of all ages are welcome to see patients at any time, both in their rooms and in designated areas such as the family lounge, conservatory, and gardens.

Visitors can use the Hospice’s dining room and catering services during opening hours. Well-behaved pets are welcome too.
