Freedom to Speak Up

Freedom to Speak Up helps people working in healthcare settings – including Willow Wood Hospice – to speak up if they see something wrong or worrying at work.

At Willow Wood Hospice, we are proud to champion a culture where every voice matters. Through the national Freedom to Speak Up initiative, we ensure that every member of our workforce—no matter their role —feels safe, supported, and empowered to raise concerns when something doesn’t feel right.

Everyone who works or volunteers at Willow Wood Hospice can speak up. Whether they’re a full-time or part-time employee, a student on placement, or one of our incredible volunteers, their voice is valued—and heard.

Our dedicated Freedom to Speak Up Guardians and Champions are here to help. Trained to listen confidentially and supportively, they offer a safe space to raise any concern—no matter how big or small.

Why it matters

We believe that speaking up protects people and strengthens care. Whether it’s about unsafe practices, bullying, unprofessional behaviour, or anything else that doesn’t feel right, raising concerns helps us:

  • Prevent harm
  • Improve safety
  • Promote fairness and respect
  • Build trust across our teams

Our promise

We are proud to be an organisation that leads with accountability, transparency, and compassion. Speaking up is not just welcomed—it’s encouraged. It helps us uphold the highest standards of care for our patients, and the best possible working environment for our team.

We celebrate Freedom to Speak Up as a powerful reminder that everyone has a voice—and every voice can make a difference.
