Position: Student Counselling Placement

Reports to: Counsellor

Responsible to:  Family Support and Bereavement Lead

Hours: Minimum four hours per week for at least one year.

Role Summary: To support the Family Support Team offering counselling to patients and families at Willow Wood. As someone who has completed a minimal of 50 hours placement hours, you will be ready to develop your counselling skills through a variety of client work. Working closely with our qualified counsellors and family support lead, you will be supported to offer counselling sessions to patients, their families and bereaved individuals as a part of their journey at Willow Wood.

Specifics of the role: You will work with a maximum of three clients at any point and receive fortnightly support and supervision from a counsellor or the family support lead, in addition, you will also need to seek external supervision as a part of your placement. Additional training and development opportunities will be offered as a part of the wider Family Support Team and you will be asked to take part in projects that help us to develop our service offer.

Main Responsibilities

  • To provide weekly or fortnightly counselling sessions to individuals who are patients or family members of those open to Willow Wood services.
  • To engage with Family Support Team processes, pathways and meetings to provide a consistent service offer across the hospice.
  • To record all client contact accurately to ensure clear reporting and recording pathways are followed.
  • To access external clinical supervision and internal support to ensure you are equipped to support your clients and have opportunity to be reflective within your work.
  • To report and record any risk, including that which would be reported as a safeguarding concern by following the appropriate channels, following any disclosure or concern which is raised within a counselling session.
  • To adhere to confidentiality and information sharing policy and procedures at all times, including declarations of conflict of interest.
  • To commit to BACP’s ethical framework and the organisation’s values and mission.
